CH34055 – Champion FAA-PMA Igniter For PT6A Series Turbine Engines
Available now on the Airparts.aero Marketplace.
Overview
The Champion Aerospace CH34055 is a premium, FAA-PMA approved turbine engine igniter, engineered as a direct replacement for the original equipment part on a wide range of Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) PT6A turboprop engines. As a flight-critical component from the world leader in aerospace ignition systems, the CH34055 is designed to deliver a powerful, high-energy spark to ensure reliable engine light-off under all operating conditions. Featuring a long-reach design, advanced ceramic insulation, and a robust superalloy shell, this igniter provides the exceptional durability and performance that operators of PT6A-powered aircraft demand.
Key Features
- High-Energy Surface Gap Design: Utilizes a semi-conductive surface gap firing tip. This proven technology creates a massive, high-temperature spark kernel that ensures the reliable ignition of atomized Jet-A fuel, even in the cold, low-pressure conditions of a high-altitude relight.
- Advanced Ceramic Insulator: Features a proprietary high-purity alumina ceramic insulator. This provides superior dielectric strength to prevent high-voltage leakage or flashover at altitude and offers exceptional resistance to extreme thermal shock.
- Nickel Superalloy Shell: The igniter body is constructed from a high-strength, temperature-resistant nickel superalloy, providing excellent protection against oxidation, corrosion, and seizing in the hot section of the engine.
- Hermetic Sealing Technology: Incorporates an advanced hermetic seal, typically a glass or glass-ceramic bond. This seal prevents the leakage of high-pressure combustion gases past the igniter, protecting the ignition lead and exciter box from damage.
- FAA-PMA Certified: As a certified FAA-PMA part, it has been rigorously tested to meet or exceed the performance, safety, and quality standards of the original OEM part, making it a fully airworthy and cost-effective replacement.

Applications
The CH34055 has a singular, flight-critical application:
- Engine Ignition System: Serves as the final component in the ignition system, delivering the high-energy spark from the exciter box directly into the engine's annular combustion chamber to initiate light-off for every start.
- Scheduled Maintenance Item: A consumable component that is inspected for electrical characteristics and physical erosion at specified service intervals and replaced to ensure continued starting reliability.
Why Choose CH34055?

The CH34055 igniter is a key component in a high-energy, capacitor discharge ignition system. The engine's exciter box stores a powerful electrical charge (typically 1-4 Joules) in a capacitor. During the start cycle, the exciter releases this charge as a single, high-current pulse to the igniter. The voltage is high enough to flash over the igniter's semi-conductive surface gap, creating an intensely hot, large-kernel spark. This powerful spark is essential for reliably igniting the swirling, high-velocity fuel-air mixture within the PT6A's reverse-flow, annular combustor. The igniter's design is highly resistant to carbon fouling and provides consistent performance over its entire service life.
Note: This is a high-voltage, flight-critical engine component. Installation and handling must be performed by a certified A&P mechanic in strict accordance with the current Pratt & Whitney Canada maintenance manual. The ignition system carries lethal voltages and must be fully de-energized and grounded before any maintenance is performed.
