The CH34055 igniter is a key component in a high-energy, capacitor discharge ignition system. The engine's exciter box stores a powerful electrical charge (typically 1-4 Joules) in a capacitor. During the start cycle, the exciter releases this charge as a single, high-current pulse to the igniter. The voltage is high enough to flash over the igniter's semi-conductive surface gap, creating an intensely hot, large-kernel spark.
