The Champion CH48108-1 filter element employs a "semi-depth" filtration strategy. The resin-impregnated and cured cellulosic fibers create a complex, multi-layered path for the oil to travel through. This design combines the benefits of surface filtration, where larger particles are trapped on the outer layer, with depth filtration, where smaller, microscopic contaminants become embedded within the matrix of the filter media. This ensures a high particle capture efficiency without creating an excessive pressure drop across the filter. The filter also contains an integrated bypass valve, a critical safety feature that will open to allow unfiltered oil to lubricate the engine in the rare event that the filter media becomes completely clogged, ensuring lubrication is maintained over filtration.

According to industry-approved tests, the Champion oil filter traps and holds more dirt and harmful particles during its normal operating time than any other similar filter.
